Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARF

Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 5Gary RJanuary 4, 2012This is my second one, and after a great building and mod session, it's a very good flyer. Did the Maiden flights on this much better second effort a couple of weeks ago. Wow! The work was worth it. (My first one suffered several flutter problems and eventually it was finished.) First I upgraded all linkages to HD DuBro and Sullivan pull-pull. Fitted in Dual mini servos for elevator halves and built my own cf pushrods. Moved gear location forward 1 inch and installed better quality heat treated aluminum gear...use CF if you find the right size. Painted every joint I could reach with thinned slow dry epoxy. THEN I mounted a ST G90 up front with a 15 x 6 APC prop. Stupid power, but this aircraft is for IMAC practice, so throttle maagement is part of the flight package. I am pleased to say that the little $89 Yak is now worth maybe $130 (plus radio stuff and engine) and is flying VERY well. Set the CG on the wing tube. This version 2 has 1/4" flat tail surfaces, unlike my previous one which had tapered surfaces which fluttered. DO gap-seal all flight surfaces with clear ultrakote, both sides. Definitely helps this airframe to not flutter. IMHO, if you are a bit of a builder looking for a project, this Yak54 V2 is a steal at $89 and lots of fun to mod, making the effort great fun. Flies REALLY well with all the mods... Good luck with yours.
Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 5DannyOctober 20, 2011the hardware that comes with this arf is totally useless, would be a good plane with better hardware-although tail piece was very tilted to left side. Coating shrinks very easy when stretching skin especially at corner points. For just a few dollars more with quality coating and hardware it would be a first rate arf, looks good in the air.
Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 5WayneOctober 4, 2011I got the 2nd one up and a bit heavy at 7.4 lbs it flies great. Using a Rimfire .55 motor, Castle 75 amp esc, and 6 cell set up. 900 watts at around 40 amps with a 14x10 prop. I flew it with a 3 blade 13x8, and a regular 14x7 prop. Fun plane. I replaced the cheap soft landing gear with Dubro molded landing gear. Still a great deal for the price even if you get 2...
Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 4Mt.FlyerSeptember 29, 2011Incredible price for what you get. There are a few issues though. The whole pull pull system does not work, the parts dont go together, so you will have to figure that out. Also, the landing gear is really soft almunium and bends very easly. No suprise but the instructions are not the best for sure. Over all a really great deal if you can handle the items listed. Plane flys great!
Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 5WayneSeptember 14, 2011I took my time building this Yak 54/52 as the manual is useless... I figured out the CG as neutral and maiden it. The plane flew awesome at 1/2 throttle. No trim needed. I did electric with a Power 46 motor and 60 amp esc, 5 cell 4000 mah, 14x7 prop, and 13x8 3 blade prop. I used push rods instead of the pull-pull. However, I lost the plane due to the sun/shadow and lost orientation. Ordered another one, can't wait to get it in the air.
Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 4Brian HackerAugust 23, 2011Great plane. I recived it quickly and it looks to be well constructed and everything was there I would suggest investing in better landing gear and Wheels , better clasps for the pull pull systems ( elev. rudder) also after seeing it I would not try to run a engine on the small end of what they say you can use. I am very happy with the plane over all... also if you are ordering know that you only need 4 standard servos and 1 micro servo for the throttle.. I did not know this and ordered 5 big servos ... But I found a good way to mount a big servo for it. check out my youtube channel I have a unboxing and build video www.youtube.com/hacker8675309
Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 5Trevor KatzakianJune 25, 2011Shipped quickly, looks great, built very well and I found the hardware packages to be okay being that they are complete with nothing missing, and good quality for the price. The plane looks like it will fly great and even do decent 3D, if this had airfoiled tail surfaces I might have to say one of the best planes on the market for the price and size range.
Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 4antolin verryJune 19, 2011nice flying plane... maiden today on a 10 to 20 mph wind... powered by magnum 52 and a 12x8 prop... handled great very stable and predictable... landing gear is week it spread open on second landing other wise very nice plane...
Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 4James-May 22, 2011I love this aircraft. it's light, fast, and agile. The elevator and rudder are both pull-pull, no slack, no flutter. Only one thing I did not see in the manual is the CG. I would like for it to be available for everyone so,would you put it here? This is my second build and,I would like to be spot-on. Since I have a bunch of old timers at the field that are very critical, I want to leave them "Drop-Jawed.
Red Yak 52 3D 50 - 56" Version 2 Nitro Gas Radio Remote Controlled Aircraft Almost-Ready-to-Fly ARFstar rating 4Gary RobertsonDecember 9, 2010Great flying aircraft. Needs hinge gaps sealed well on ailerons, rudder, etc. Reinforce as you see fit around all the usual spots. Replace linkages, tank, with good stuff and go flying! Very good value for the $ if you are prepared to do a careful build.
